FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. - A woman can rest easy for a while knowing she has the help of a local sheriff's deputy.
The deputy aided the sick woman by mowing her lawn recently while he was off duty.
Forsyth County sheriff’s deputy Robin Regan said one of the department’s deputies responded to the home in reference to a welfare check.
People were concerned about that residence, he said.
“He found that there was someone there having a hard time taking care of herself,” Regan said.
Regan said the deputy also found several notices about the lawn and its maintenance, or lack thereof.
He said the woman, who had a family, was clearly unable to care for and maintain the lawn.
So, Regan said, the deputy took matters into his own hands.
“He came back on his day off while he was not working, with his own lawn equipment, and took care of the lawn for her,” Regan said.
Regan said the act of kindness was done quietly and on his own time.
“He didn’t tell anyone he was doing it. It was something he did out of the goodness of his heart,” Regan said.
The homeowner contacted a local newspaper, which is how Regan said he found out about the good deed.
“Knowing this deputy, it’s not a surprise that he would do such a nice thing, and it’s also not a surprise that he’s wishing to remain anonymous,” Regan said. “He said he just knew it was the right thing to do and didn’t want recognition for it.”
Regan said it is not unusual for deputies to do things for others while off duty without boasting about it to their department or others.
“We usually do keep it to ourselves,” Regan said. “It’s a lifestyle, and we’re all hopefully in it (law enforcement) because we want to help people.”
Regan said the deputy has plans to help the woman maintain her yard, as she is unable to.
