ATLANTA - Georgia Department of Transportation officials are warning drivers about major construction projects underway this weekend on metro Atlanta interstates.
Delays are expected, particularly on the northbound Downtown Connector, where crews are repairing and painting bridges.
"The Downtown Connector northbound is definitely the hot spot this weekend," said GDOT Metro District Construction Engineer Shun Pringle in a news release.
Up to three northbound lanes will be closed between Interstate 20 and Andrew Young International Boulevard all weekend.
There are also multiple lane closures on Interstate 285.
“I-285 west around (SR) 400 and I-20 east at Wesley Chapel will be very crowded as well. All I can say is plan ahead and look for alternate routes,” Pringle said.
Up to three left westbound lanes will be closed all weekend for bridge work between Roswell Road and State Route 400. There are various rolling lane closures in both directions in several locations on I-285 on the north and west sides of Atlanta for striping.
Also, two right eastbound lanes will be closed all weekend on Interstate 20 from Wesley Chapel Road to Panola Road for bridge joint work.
