Wheels stolen off cars at Dunwoody apartment complex

Residents of a DeKalb County apartment complex want better security after they found their cars sitting on blocks Friday morning.

Thieves stole the wheels off Eric Eason’s 2016 Honda Accord.

“When I got closer, I was like, ‘Wow, both of my tires are missing.’ I went to the other side and I was like, ‘Whoa, all of my tires are missing,’” he said.

Eason was not the only victim.

Michael Grochowski said his wife alerted him that the wheels were also gone on his car.

“My wife screaming, ‘Michael, Michael, get up our car is on blocks,’” he said.

Grochowski also drives a 2016 Honda Accord.

According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau, the Honda Accord and the Honda Civic are the most stolen vehicles in the U.S.

Ford pickups also top the list, and thieves tried to steal the wheels from a Ford pickup truck at the complex on Friday.

Some of the residents say they want better security.

“I think they got in through the gates,” Eason said. “It’s not that hard to get in the neighborhood. Sometimes the gates, for whatever reason, are left open.”

A complex representative said the gates are not left open and security guards live at the complex.

“The community needs to have some sort of security cameras out front, something to secure the neighbors,” Grochowski said. “If they’re going to come and take rims off of cars, there’s other stuff they can do too.”

Police dusted all the cars for fingerprints and are investigating the thefts.
