SWAT enters home seeking teen accused of shooting foster sister

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Authorities in DeKalb County say a teenage shooting suspect was believed to be holed up inside a home just outside Decatur.

SWAT officials were called to the home at the intersection of Toney and Glendale drives, police said.

Authorities have identified Nathaniel Lopez, 18, as the one who allegedly shot his teenage foster sister in the foot.

Police said they did not find Lopez when they got inside the home, which was the scene of a SWAT standoff Tuesday afternoon.

Neighbors told Channel 2's Sophia Choi the large police presence in their area is surprising because it's normally a quiet place, though they have seen some changes in the area.

“It’s normally safe around here, but we been noticing a lot of traffic around here,” neighbor Kenneth Walker said. “A lot of young girls, a lot of different type of people.”

Lopez’s foster sister is expected to survive and is recovering at Grady Memorial Hospital as police continue the search for her foster brother.

Police say that Lopez is also wanted in Henry County on aggravated assault charges.
