Son says his 78-year-old mother was targeted in robbery

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Police say three men are ganging up on elderly women by following them, then robbing them.

“I want my money back, and I want something done to him, I really do. I want the judge to get to him," said Nancy Smith, one of three women followed from a bank and then robbed in DeKalb County.

Detectives released surveillance video Monday from one of the banks that police say was stalked by the men.

“To go to a bank and watch people, and pick someone out and follow them, no matter how far away, that’s kind of predatory to me, more than a crime of opportunity," said Detective John Kearney.

Smith, still in her 60s, is the youngest victim. Two other women were in their late 70s. Kearney said the men case the banks looking for prey.

“They would act like they are in line at the bank, but they wouldn't actually go up to the teller," Kearney said.

Hollis Baugh was also targeted. Police released grainy video of robbers taking $900 when they came up from behind her a this parking lot and snatched her purse.

“I turned around and he was getting in his car and they took off,"

Baugh said. The incident happened so fast she didn't have time to react.

“I didn't have a chance to be scared," she said.

Police want the public’s help in identifying the suspects they fear will become even more violent.

The victims told Channel 2's Liz Artz they hope the thieves are stopped before someone gets killed.

“I didn't see them but God sure got his eyes on him and God is going to get you,” Baugh said.

Police are asking anyone who may know anything about this crime to call Crime Stoppers.
