Softball-sized rocks thrown at cars during rush hour

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A woman whose car was hit by a large rock while she was driving on the exit ramp of I-85 North during rush hour says she thought she was being shot at.

DeKalb Police say large rocks were thrown at cars on the Clairmont Road exit ramp of I-85N on Monday. Authorities have also received reports about someone throwing rocks on Sunday.

Large rocks thrown off I-85 N have DeKalb County residents avoiding the area.

Witnesses say they saw what looked like teens throwing big rocks off the rocky cliff towards cars.

Jane Yi, one of the victims, told Channel 2's Carol Sbarge the large rock smashed through her rear windshield on Monday.

"I'm just so grateful I didn't get hit in the front because if my windshield shattered like my back (windshield) I would probably be blind. I could have swerved and hit another car and killed myself or someone else," Yi said.

Another driver who was hit, Janice Durant, says a rock smashed through her passenger window. Her daughter was crouched down in her seat because she wasn’t feeling well and avoided getting hit.

“Her words to me were ‘God was protecting me that night because thank goodness I was bent down,’” Durant said.
