Police hope to find gunman seen dragging employee during robbery

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A woman tells Channel 2 Action News she was paralyzed with fear when she says a gunman dragged her throughout a grocery store during a robbery. The terrifying incident was caught on camera and the gunman is still on the loose.

On Sunday morning, Vandana Ramteke was working at the Food Mart on Evans Mill Road in DeKalb County when police say a man armed with what they believe is a rifle burst into the store.

Surveillance video obtained by Channel 2 Actions News shows the gunman approach Ramteke and drag her out of the backroom, taking her to the register to get money.

When Ramteke spoke to Channel 2's Liz Artz, she was still shaken by the incident.

“I was thinking 'I'm dreaming I'm dreaming,'" Ramteke said. "It was so scary. Nothing was working."

The police report Artz received says the gunman forced Ramteke to open the cash register.  He also demanded Ramteke open the ATM. She told him she wasn’t able to do that, the report details. Despite that, police say the gunman got away with thousands of dollars in cash.

Ramteke's arm had to be wrapped up in bandages because it broke as a result of the robbery. The mother of two told Artz she’s just grateful that’s all that happened.

“If I lose my life, I have two kids to look after,” Ramteke said.

Police are hoping someone recognizes the gunman in the surveillance video.
