Parents desperate to find missing teen friends

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Elvie and Kalena Jamerson moved their family of 15 to metro Atlanta from Arizona just months ago. Now one of their children is missing in an unfamiliar place.

“She’s only been out here three months and I feel like I put my baby in the lion’s den and she got bit,” Kalena

Jamerson cried, falling into her husband’s arms.

The couple believes their 14-year-old daughter Destiny has fallen victim to some sort of peer pressure.

Destiny left Towers High School during fourth period on November 29, alongside her 14-year-old friend Thalia Mune-Ath. Neither of the girls took their cellphones with them, and they stopped checking social media messages on Friday, according to their parents.

An alert was sent out last week by the Center for Missing and Exploited Children. School authorities are the lead investigators in the case since the girls left school grounds. DeKalb County police confirm they would only get involved at the request of the lead agency.

On Wednesday, hundreds of fliers began circulating at the school. The families are offering their own $1,000 reward in the case. Tina Mune-Ath said Wednesday she fears the idea of sex trafficking.

“I’m hoping to God that nobody has them where they can’t leave,” said Mune-Ath.

The Jamersons said they’re not ready to run with that theory. They believe their daughter has fallen victim to peer pressure. Elvie Jamerson pleaded for his daughter to contact them.

“Call me. I will come get you wherever you are. Wherever you are,” he said.

The couple said there was no strife in their home.

“She stems from an old-school love,” Kalena Jamerson cried. “Me and her daddy been together for 20 years.

She has four brothers and eight sisters who she loves. I know this is not who she is.”
