Neighbors fear for safety after deadly shooting in Brookhaven

BROOKHAVEN, Ga. — Neighbors at a Brookhaven apartment complex are worried about their safety after someone was killed in the hallway.

Police continue to search for at least one person who shot and killed the victim, identified as Travis E. Ridley, 26, of Atlanta. at Avana Apartments off Clairmont Road Thursday evening.

Cell phone video shows the moment officers tried to save the man, who died later at the hospital.

"I heard eight shots go off," witness Ashley Jamieson told Channel 2’s Nefertiti Jaquez.

Jamieson said she had just returned home when she heard rapid gunfire coming from down the hall followed by tearful screams.

"I heard running, then I heard tires squeal and ran to the window to see if I could see someone driving off," Jamieson said.

When she didn't see anyone take off she said she immediately grabbed her cellphone and called 911.

"When police arrived we went out to the hallway and saw them resuscitating him," Jamieson told Jaquez.
