Jeff Breedlove had served as chief of staff for DeKalb County District 1 Commissioner Nancy Jester for nearly two years.

According to the police report, Breedlove was at a motel on Memorial Drive on Monday when someone who claimed to be his friend called police and said Breedlove was in trouble.

Police showed up and said they found Breedlove in room 222, where he was with two other people -- a man and a woman.

Police said they recovered a gun from the man accompanying Breedlove. When they asked Breedlove what was going on, he allegedly told an officer, “I use crack cocaine. I have a crack habit. I don’t want to get myself in trouble, or incriminate myself.”

Police detained Breedlove, and when he got to the station, police say he told them a story about being held against his will.

Officers determined that was a lie and arrested him. Breedlove was charged with making false statements. He remains jailed and will have to see a judge before he can bond out.

Police did not find any drugs on Breedlove.

Jester sent Channel 2 Action News a statement saying, in part, “He did not show up at a meeting this weekend or for work on Monday. I considered this a resignation and executed termination effective yesterday. I do not condone or tolerate lack of performance in an employee and I have taken swift and immediate action regarding this situation.”
