Neighbors on alert after man lurks in driveways

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Neighbors in DeKalb County are concerned after they spotted a suspicious man sitting in their driveways.

Two neighborhoods have reported the suspicious behavior.

Tim Butler said he has been on alert  all week after he saw something out of the ordinary in his Decatur neighborhood.

"My gut feeling was it didn't pass the smell test," he said.

Butler saw a driver in a black Mustang with no tags or bumper pulling into multiple driveways and not getting out. He said it happened around 11:00 am last Saturday on Fifth Avenue.

"They were either seeing if people were not home or if they were home and kind casing the houses," he said.

Butler called police, but the car left before officers arrived.

Decatur police said neighbors on Mockingbird Lane called Monday about a car with the same description doing the same thing.

Police said the driver told them he was just minding his own business.

"It did seem weird that he was pulling into people's driveways and just hanging out for a little bit," Butler said.

People in both neighborhoods and across the city are taking steps to make sure their home doesn't become a target.

"It's real important how quickly the neighbors respond to let them know, 'Not here buddy, go away,'" neighbor Loretta Parham said.

Police cited the driver for traffic violations since he was not committing a crime.
