Man wearing work clothes found shot to death in Stone Mountain

Man found shot to death outside Stone Mountain apartment complex

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Police have identified the man who was discovered dead near the mailboxes in the grassy area of a DeKalb apartment complex Tuesday morning.

Someone in the apartments called 911 around 7:40 a.m., when they found a young man in his late 20s wearing construction clothing.

“He’s in between the mail boxes and this unit right here,” said DeKalb County Police Information Officer Shiera Campbell.

Neighbors at the apartment complex off Gladeview Parkway were shocked.

Detectives told Channel 2's Liz Artz that it appeared the man was headed to or coming home from work when he was shot multiple times.

“He was wearing some sort of construction or industrial-type workboots,” Campbell said.

According to the detectives, a hard hat was also discovered nearby.

Police are not releasing his identity until next of kin is notified.

The property management asked Channel 2 to leave but we were there as investigators worked.

“Detectives will be canvassing the area and talking to residents to see if they have heard anything or seen anything as well," Campbell said.

Police say neighbors did report hearing several gunshots overnight.

“It’s scary though, because it’s right there,” one apartment resident said. “I am at the point now where I don’t want to stay here no more.”

Police are still working to learn how the young man ended up shot.
