Man shot in McDonald's parking lot in Brookhaven, police say

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Police are searching for the person who shot a man in the neck in the parking lot of a shopping plaza in Brookhaven.

The victim told police that he was in his car in the McDonald’s parking lot on Peachtree Road Tuesday night when a woman in her 20s demanded money and shot him.

Police found him a mile away, walking in the area of Osborne Road and Windsor Parkway. They said he was holding a T-shirt against his neck to stop the bleeding.

The victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition and had surgery Wednesday morning, police said.

Neighbors said police often patrol the shopping plaza, so they were surprised to hear that someone was shot.

“For the most part Brookhaven is pretty much safe,” Tim Moon said.

One man told Channel 2's Tyisha Fernandes that the shooting may have surprised him in the past, but there have been so many shootings in metro Atlanta it doesn't shock him anymore.

“It’s everywhere you go now, so it’s on the outskirts. It’s just everywhere. We’re just living in these days and times,” resident Quenson Beavers said.

Police said they hope to get more information about the shooting from the victim once he recovers from his injuries.
