Man breaks into 7 homes in Decatur neighborhood

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — People who live in a local neighborhood plan to take action after thieves broke into seven homes in one week.

Channel 2 Action News obtained surveillance video of a man going through a home in the Medlock Park area in DeKalb County.

Residents at the park in Decatur said the break-ins happen on certain days.

A homeowner's surveillance camera recorded video of a man with a ski mask walking through someone's house. The thief broke in through a basement door and stole a gun and class ring.

“Our security company called and said the alarm was going off in our house,” Cindy Aldridge said.

By the time officers showed up the thief was gone.

Her house was one of seven hit in the last week.

“They stole our laptop and went through all of our drawers,” she said.

Residents believe the thieves are cutting holes through a chain linked fence and gaining access into their neighborhood, but only certain days.

They believe they are happening on Mondays and Fridays.

The posted surveillance signs do not deter the burglars, and residents hope the presence of officers in neighborhood will.
