Local Trump advisor organized high-profile meetings

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A metro Atlanta man helped President-elect Donald Trump meet with Kanye West and football greats Jim Brown and Ray Lewis at Trump Tower Tuesday.

Bruce Levell, one of Trump's close advisors, gave Channel 2’s Richard Elliot a rare behind-the-scenes look at Trump and that meeting.

“There's a lot of excitement. There's a lot of fire,” Levell said.

He showed Elliot exclusive photos of the president-elect meeting with Lewis and Brown inside Trump Tower.

Trump met with West separately.

Levell said it's Trump's way of making good on a campaign promise he made to the African-American community that he wouldn't just ask for their vote and then disappear.

“President-elect Trump is a type of person who doesn't want to sit and tell the world something that he can't back up, or not going to back up,” Levell said.

The president-elect has faced withering criticism from the African-American community but Levell said Trump reached out to people like Brown and his "America, I Can" charity because he wants to work with existing nonprofits and faith-based organizations to help underserved communities.

“Why not take a President-elect Trump, who says, 'Hey guys, let's work with something you already have.  Let's not try to reinvent,'” Levell said.

He said the meetings went well and that they were a part of Trump trying get across a message of "We're all in this together."

“Once again, it's an American thing is the way he's looking at it. It's not a black thing, a white thing or a Hispanic thing. It gets down to an American thing,” Levell said.

As for Levell, he said he's considering a run for Georgia’s 6th Congressional District, which belongs to Tom Price until he's confirmed to become Trump's Health and Human Services Secretary.
