Family remembers final moments with mother, daughter killed in home

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Family members are speaking for the first time after a mother and daughter were shot and killed in their own home.

Tasha Fluker, 41, and her daughter Janazia Miles, 26 were found dead inside a home on Parkway Trail in Lithonia last Wednesday.

Police found Miles' baby alone in the home.

Police arrested and charged Fluker's boyfriend, Michael Thornton, 40, with murder.

Relatives said Fluker ended her relationship with Thornton, and he couldn't take it.

He allegedly killed his girlfriend the same night she celebrated her birthday with her friends and family.

“Before we left, I said, ‘I love you sis.’ She gave me a big hug, but when she hugged me, she hugged me so tight it was like she was saying goodbye,” Fluker’s sister, Monique, said.

Thornton told police the gun went off by accident during a fight with the mother and daughter.

Relatives don’t believe the shootings were an accident. Police found the victims in two different parts of the house.

“How is that possible when she was in the bathroom and my niece was downstairs? So it went off twice? The gun just went off twice?” Monique Fluker said.

As family members plan two funerals and take care of the victims’ children, they want Thornton to pay for what they say he’s done.

“I want him to see the pain in my eyes, and I can’t believe that you did that to my sister and my niece,” Monique Fluker said.

Thornton is charged with two counts of felony murder and is being held at the DeKalb County jail.
