DECATUR, Ga. — Investigators are looking into a Decatur house fire that left a 71-year-old woman dead.
The blaze broke out at a home on Hillmont Avenue. When firefighters arrived, smoke was pouring from the one-story home.
They were able to pull the woman from a front window. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, but later died.
Friends identified the victim as Rosa Harrison.
“Preliminarily speaking, this appears to be an accidental fire. There’s nothing to indicate to us that this is anything but accidental,” said Capt. Eric Jackson.

Channel 2's Audrey Washington spoke to a friend who said she did everything she could to try to save Harrison.
"I immediately ran to the door and started hitting it and kicking it and yelled for her to get out of the house," Joan Gage said.

Harrison was described as a wonderful person who was the heartbeat of the close-knit neighborhood.
“I would say the world is a little less without her. She was a good woman,” Gage said.
Family members were at the home Friday afternoon trying to salvage what they could.
They said Harrison lived alone, and her husband died earlier this year.
