Doraville K9 officer stabbed; suspect arrested

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Police arrested a man accused of stabbing a K9 officer in Doraville Friday afternoon.

Dunwoody police say they were assisting the U.S. Marshals in a fugitive search for Jeffery Coleman, who was wanted in four north Georgia counties.

Officers say they found Coleman in the Hidden Branches subdivision, where he was taken into custody.

As they were searching for him, Coleman allegedly stabbed the K9 officer in the mouth. The dog, named Tryko, went into emergency surgery, where he received 25-30 stitches. He is now stable.

NewsChopper 2 was over the scene as police arrested the man and led him away in handcuffs.

Neighbors say the whole situation was terrifying.

“Very scary. They looked like they were here for something serious so it’s scary. We have children, most people around here do. It’s quiet, generally a safe neighborhood,” said one man.

Coleman is facing charges in Cobb, Cherokee, Dawson and Pickens counties, including assault, violation of probation and possession of stolen property.
