DNA links 'armed and dangerous' man to violent home invasion

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Police announced a major break in the search for a man attacking women across metro Atlanta.

Investigators said Corey Griffin is the man behind a string of attacks on women in metro Atlanta, but they cannot find him!

Channel 2's Carl Willis learned Thursday night that police are tying Griffin to at least three other crimes as well.

Police told Willis that Griffin was the man seen on home surveillance video after a violent a home invasion on May 11.

Investigators said the crime was so violent that the Georgia Bureau of Investigation fast-tracked DNA testing to single-out Griffin as the suspect.

"It's our top priority. It should be everyone's top priority," Sgt. Jasond Elliot with the Clarkston Police Department said.

Clarkston police revealed Thursday that the brutal attack on two women in a home on Market Street also involved him sexually assaulting one of the victims.

"We don't know if he's staying local, if he's staying somewhere else, (or) if he's fled the area," Elliot said.

But investigators do know that he's traveled as far as Stone Mountain. Griffin has been linked to at least two other similar crimes there, including one where he punched, choked and even spray painted a victim's face.

"He pushed me down on the bed and pulled out the spray paint and literally covered my face," victim Stewart Wallace said.

"The fact that days later he was willing to commit another similar type crime shows that he is not scared. He will continue if we don't stop him and catch him," Elliot told Willis.

Once police identified Griffin through DNA, they quickly learned that he already had a warrant out for his arrest for another rape case in DeKalb County.

They say that happened shortly before he struck in Clarkston.

Investigators told Willis they need Griffin caught before there's yet another victim.

"There's definitely a threat," Elliot said.

Anyone with information on Griffin’s whereabouts is asked to call the Clarkston Police Department at 404-292-9465 or call 911.

Investigators say Griffin should be considered armed and dangerous.
