DeKalb Tin Drum location receives 57 on health inspection

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — UPDATE: The restaurant sent Channel 2 this statement:

"As a follow up to the reports earlier this week related to the Tin Drum Asian Kitchen in North Druid Hills, the restaurant re-inspection came back at a 90."

A locally-owned chain restaurant on Briarcliff Road in DeKalb County recently got a 57 on its health inspection.

Tin Drum Asia Kitchen says it has since fixed all the violations noted at the Briarcliff Road location in DeKalb County.

There are 10 Tin Drum Asia Kitchens in Georgia. The restaurants are known for Asian dishes, including one of the chain's signature dishes, Mango Stir Fry.

On Aug. 25, the Briarcliff Road restaurant got the 57.

One potential customer, Kathy Fletcher, told Channel 2’s Carol Sbarge she is glad to know that health inspectors are out doing their job to correct customers.

In the August health inspection, the inspector noted that a worker at the Tin Drum Asia Kitchen coughed on their gloved hand and immediately prepared food. Other violations included manager lacking proof of food manager certification, hand sink missing in the food preparation room or area and dead nymph roaches behind a sink in the kitchen.

When Sbarge went to the restaurant, the corporate chef and a general manager from another restaurant location were there working with the staff. %

In an email statement, a spokesperson for the corporation said that upon receiving the inspection report, the kitchen at the Briarcliff location immediately fixed all the violations.

The spokesperson wrote, “This included all restaurant employees related to our stringent food handling and preparation processes. This was an isolated incident, as the company has an average health score of over 90 across its restaurants.”

The spokesperson said all operators at the restaurants are ServSafe.
