Police search for man accused of robbing, raping woman at gunpoint

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Police are searching for a rape suspect who attacked a woman in her apartment complex.

That woman shared her terrifying experience with Channel 2 Action News to try and warn others about the attack that has her living in fear.

Police gave Channel 2’s Matt Belanger a picture of the suspect and a sketch they hope will lead them to an arrest. %

The victim, who asked not to be identified, said she parked her car in the parking garage at the Atlas LaVista Hills apartments on Parklake Drive when a man came up behind her, put his hand over her mouth and pulled out a gun.

"He pulled out a gun from here and pointed it at my head and told me to give him all my money," the 27-year-old victim told Belanger.

The woman said the man took her money, keys and phone and forced his way into her car.

"’Do not look at me,’ he said," the victim said.

She told Belanger he drove her to a nearby parking lot, which was empty at the time.

"He raped me. He forced himself on me and had the gun to me the whole time," the woman said.

The victim said she didn't scream for help because she was worried for her life.

The suspect eventually took off and she called police. %

The woman said she thinks the man followed her home from a nearby gas station, where she stopped just before.

She told Belanger she never expected she would be attacked in the secured garage.

"I thought I would be safe and I wasn't," the woman said. "He ran and slid under the gate in my parking deck."

Surveillance video from the apartment complex shows the suspect. Police are expected to release the full video Thursday.

"He's a sick individual. I thank God I'm OK to tell my story and I want everyone to be warned," the victim said,

The apartment complex sent a letter to residents about the incident. It urges people with any information that could help to call DeKalb County police.
