Crane tips over, splits family's home in half

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Clean up efforts are getting started after a large crane tipped over and came crashing down into a DeKalb County family's home.

Home owners Andy and Suzanne Williams told Channel 2's Liz Artz it's surreal to look at their Brookhaven house with a giant crane splitting it nearly in two.

The family said crews were working to remove a giant oak tree from the backyard Thursday when the crane flipped with too much weight on the other end. The boom reached all the way to the neighborhood behind the Williams’.

Friday morning other cranes were brought in to remove the truck. It's still unclear what will happen to the house once the crane is gone.

“The structural wall runs through the center of the house and came to the left of it. We will figure out if the wall is still intact, that will be the big question mark,” Andy Williams said.

“The most important thing is that we got out of the house alive, and we're very grateful and we thank God, for sure, for taking care of it,” Suzanne Williams said.
