Family says county worker caught relieving himself on property

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A family says DeKalb County workers are violating their property.

They say they've been complaining for years and reached a breaking point this week when they caught a county worker relieving himself on their privacy fence.

"He starts peeing right here, but doesn't know there's a camera sitting right there," Dawn Kortobi said.

DeKalb County Watershed maintains a lift station on Kortobi's land, just steps away from her home.

She said the county has access to the easement that leads to the equipment, but the workers have not been treating her land properly.

"I just don't see how a county employee is allowed to act that way when general people on the street get arrested for that," Kortobi said.

She said she met with county leaders and the head of DeKalb Watershed last February and they assured her that a code of conduct would be reinforced, instructing workers on how to deal with private property.

Channel 2's Carl Willis contacted the department and was told "a probationary DeKalb County employee has admitted to inappropriate behavior and will be disciplined accordingly."

Kortobi said the issues go beyond one worker. She said a contract worker broke her fence.

She wants to send a message now because the county may be preparing for a renovation project.

"So, we're going to have more people out here, more contractors, more employees. We can only imagine what's going to happen if and when they get started with this project," Kortobi said.
