Atlanta officer being questioned in girlfriend's shooting, investigators say

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — DeKalb County police are currently questioning an Atlanta police officer after his girlfriend was found shot inside their home.

Police said the home is on Cavanaugh Avenue.

"Right now we are investigating it as a possible attempted suicide," Shiera Campbell with the DeKalb County Police Department said.

As night fell, DeKalb County police worked to try to piece together exactly what happened in the home.

“We know there’s a relationship between the victim and the male, who’s a police officer,” Campbell said.

Officers arrived at the scene shortly after 5 p.m. Monday after receiving a 911 call.

However, investigators would not confirm who placed the call, if the APD officer was at the home or present at the time of the shooting or if he came home to find his girlfriend already shot and injured.

“They’re trying to determine exactly what happened and how it happened,” Campbell said.

The 32-year-old was rushed to a nearby hospital where she’s listed in critical condition.

The APD officer is being questioned about the shooting.

“He’s being interviewed by DeKalb police officers. He’s down at headquarters,” Campbell said.
