Apartment complex kicks out families if kids break the rules

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A soccer coach says a local apartment staff is kicking families out of their homes, because their kids are playing ball on the property.

Property managers say rules are rules.

Coach Antonio Salinas says members of his youth soccer team are being punished by staff at the Brookstone Square Apartments.

Some of their families forced out after their children were seen playing ball on property.

"These kids are not allowed to play soccer. They're not allowed to carry any type of ball. They're not allowed to scream too loud. They're not allowed to ride bikes," Salinas said.

The rules are displayed on these signs throughout property on Buford Highway in northeast Atlanta.

Salinas says the staff is going too far and taking away a positive outlet for kids like Francisco Ignacio.

Apartment management chose not to renew his family's lease, claiming that he played soccer in the common areas.

"All they're going to do is they're going to sit. They're going to think of other ways of getting rid of energy, which could be by breaking into houses, cars," Salinas said.

"I know some people who do drugs and I'm not trying to be like one of those," Ignacio said.

Management told Channel 2's Carl Willis neighbors have complained about noise and broken windows. Salinas says the team paid for the windows.

The owner of the apartment complex says she has no comment for this story.
