10-year-old Florida evacuee hit, killed by car; mother also injured

STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. — A family, who came to metro Atlanta to get out of the storm's deadly path, is now dealing with a tragic loss.

The DeKalb County Police Department told Channel 2’s Liz Artz the family was staying at another house on Barbashela Circle in Stone Mountain and attending a gathering Sunday night when they confronted another woman.

Police said the boy's mother confronted the other woman, who tried to leave the house in fear of her own safety. They said the boy jumped into the middle of the altercation and that's when he was struck by the woman in the car.
