DeKalb County gets new fire chief

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — After a five-month search, DeKalb County has a new fire chief.

Darnell Fullum, 49, says he's excited and ready to hit the ground running in his new position.

Channel 2's Dave Huddleston was there Monday morning when DeKalb interim CEO Lee May announced Fullum as the new chief at the DeKalb County fire headquarters.

Fullum, former Fulton County fire deputy chief, says he plans to visit all 26 fire stations and talk to each firefighter, so they can come up with a strategy to move the department forward.

"I am honored to join your ranks. I know that you have a great fire department. I've admired it from afar, and I know that you're one of the premier fire departments in the region, if not the nation. I look forward to meeting each one of you. We're going to do great things together," Fullum said.
