DeKalb commissioners to discuss Burrell Ellis investigation

STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. — Tuesday morning, DeKalb County commissioners will discuss the investigation into county CEO Burrell Ellis.

Monday morning, agents took computers and other evidence from Ellis' Stone Mountain home. Later Monday, Ellis held a news conference to address the search. He said he has done nothing wrong and does not know why his home was raided.

"I haven't done anything that I'm aware of and nor has my staff done anything that I'm aware of that's inappropriate," Ellis said.

While his home was being searched, Ellis was testifying before a special grand jury, which is investigating Watershed operations and its procurement process.

Investigators said they believe Ellis may have knowledge about employees fired from Watershed Management for taking bribes as well as bid-rigging for county contracts.

The district attorney's office is also looking into campaign financial records.

"I think what's essential here is never have I been in any or done anything that would give anybody a promise in return for a campaign contribution. We're always clear about that," Ellis said.

Liane Levetan was the CEO of DeKalb County for eight years. She said she is taken aback by the recent events.

"It's very unfortunate that something like this comes to light," Levetan said.
