DeKalb Co. commissioners vote to build animal shelter near PDK

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Audience members cheered when DeKalb County commissioners voted on the location of the new no-kill animal shelter.

On Tuesday, commissioners voted 6-1 to build the new shelter near Peachtree DeKalb Airport.

The new shelter will replace the current facility, which some have called a "house of horrors."

For more than a year, Channel 2 Action News has reported on the roaches, poor ventilation and lack of staffing that has plagued the current shelter.

Animal activists have protested the issue at several county meetings and have been disappointed by several voting delays.
