Police ID motorcyclist killed in Beaver Ruin crash near I-85

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — The Gwinnett County Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that happened Monday evening at Beaver Ruin Road near Interstate 85.

Motorcyclist Brandon Roy, a 38-year-old from McDonough, was killed in the wreck that left three other drivers injured in unincoporated Norcross.

The preliminary investigation revealed Kenneth Griffin, of Dacula, driver of a red BMW, was traveling westbound in the left turn on Beaver Ruin Road at I-85. Four other drivers, including Roy, were stopped for the traffic light in the left turn lane.  Police said Griffin failed to stop and crashed into the stationary vehicles causing a chain reaction crash.

Police said Roy died on the scene and the injured drivers were taken to Gwinnett Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries.

News Chopper 2 captured a medical examiner on the scene along with emergency crews transporting victims to a hospital.

Monday's crash caused a traffic mess at Beaver Ruin Road, Channel 2's Kerry Kavanugh reported from the scene.

Just before 7 p.m., crews were seen cleaning up the debris left behind. Authorities closed the affected portion of Beaver Ruin,  reducing traffic to one lane in either direction going over the bridge, Kavanaugh said.

Officials confirmed that affected lanes were reopened hours later.

Police said charges are pending against Griffin.
