Crews pouring concrete in I-85 bridge repair

ATLANTA — It’s a new milestone in the repair of the Interstate 85 bridge – crews are now pouring concrete at the site.

Late Wednesday night, a crane with a long arm fed the concrete to the bridge deck.

The Georgia Department of Transportation said crews are ahead of schedule.

Project managers say Piedmont Road may have to close one more time.

“There may be one additional closure when it comes to pour the span they're setting right now, but that could also be accomplished in another way, we haven't determined that yet,” Marc Mastronardi from GDOT aid.

Crews reopened the road Wednesday morning, after they put up 61 new bridge beams.

More than 80 people are working 24/7 to reconstruct the I-85 bridge, which burned downed several weeks ago.
