4 adults, 2 children injured in 10-vehicle crash on I-285W

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Several people are recovering from a 10-vehicle crash in DeKalb County late Tuesday afternoon.

The wreck happened on Interstate 285 near Bouldercrest Road and tied up traffic for hours.

"It was just stuck. It was like bumper to bumper," said driver Kim Nguyen, who got caught up in the backup.

NewsChopper 2 flew over the 10-car-crash that sent six people to the hospital, including two children.

Despite the mangled mess that was left of the vehicles involved, DeKalb County Fire Rescue told Channel 2’s Rikki Klaus the injuries were minor to moderate.

The chain-reaction wreck stopped cars in their tracks for hours.

Investigators combed the wreckage, EMTs took victims to various hospitals and tow trucks hauled away damaged cars.

In the meantime, Klaus saw drivers walking among their parked cars.

"I mean they just got in and out. And they just looked at what happened," Nguyen told Klaus.

David Riley heard about the traffic mess minutes before he was headed to I-285. He took a different route to a meeting.

"I was able to get to my destination in a timely manner, due to the Channel 2 traffic app," Riley said.

Three semis were among the vehicles involved in the wreck.

Police have yet to release the victims' names or conditions. Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the crash.
