COWETA COUNTY, Ga. - Coweta sheriff's authorities have scaled back their search for a missing woman. Now the family of the 78-year-old is asking the public to join the search they've launched to find Eleanor Alexander.

The family has set up a command post where volunteers can meet up again Monday morning . It's located at 529 Providence Church Road in Newnan.

Police believe Alexander disappeared  from her Newnan home at around 1 a.m. Saturday.

“I was with her 9 o’clock Friday night, and that is the last time I saw her,” said Guy Alexander, the missing woman's son.

A passerby recalled seeing a woman in pajamas walking along Providence Church Road in Newnan.

“She has dementia and she is sick. She hasn’t wandered off before,” said Becky Alexander, Eleanor Alexander’s daughter-in-law.

Dozens of Coweta County deputies used search dogs and a helicopter to search the nearby woods. Neighbors and family members huddled around the command, waiting for any word.

"She's pretty recourceful. She's smart and she knows the area, so she knows the outside and inside of Newnan," Becky Alexander said.

Many also went out on horseback, with ATVs and by foot, to search until Sunday afternoon.

Family members said Alexander is very timid. They urge the public, who live nearby, to check their sheds and around the homes.  Anyone with information on Eleanor Alexander's whereabouts is being asked to call the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office at 770-253-1502.
