Controversy over roundabout possibilities in Buckhead

ATLANTA — There are concerns about a busy Buckhead intersection, but neighbors are also worried about the proposed solution of a roundabout.

Those who live near the intersection off Wieuca Road and Phipps Boulevard in north Buckhead, and even those who travel it, know it can be tricky.

"I'm thinking this is something that could be under construction in early 2018,” Jim Durrkett with the Buckhead Community Improvement District said.

This is a heavily traveled road that leads to popular Buckhead shopping and growing north Buckhead residential areas, but Wednesday night at a public meeting some residents like Marilyn Steinberg said not so fast to the plan.

"Over 300-600 people in one condominium, you've got 100 and some in another, and another, and another. All of those people coming out are not going to know what they're doing," Steinberg said.

One resident who didn't want to go on camera told me she's frustrated with the lack of community input up to this point.

"No, we're taking public comment right now. And we're going to assess what we hear and determine if there are ways that the design should be modified,” Durrkett said.

While some did say they support the plan, Steinberg believes more work needs to be done.

"I feel that they have not done enough studying," Steinberg said. "I'm not comfortable with it at all."
