Construction shuts down busy road

ATLANTA — Part of Atlanta's busiest roads were shut down as crews worked on the city's Beltline project.

The work is happening from Ponce de Leon Place to Midtown Place Shopping Center in northeast Atlanta, Channel 2's Sophia Choi reported from the area.  Foot traffic is also restricted  as crews work throughout the weekend to replace planks, painting and make other repairs to an old train trestle, right next to the old City Hall East.

The bridge will be part of the 22-mile Beltline  Loop, designed to connect 45 neighborhoods and a network of parks, trails and transit, city officials said.

Crews wrapped up Sunday evening and will return to the area next weekend to continue construction on the Beltline.
