A Cobb County father is beaming with joy after helping deliver his healthy baby girl in the front seat of the family’s SUV.
Last week, parents Jeffrey and Jocelyn Paul were en route to the hospital in rush hour traffic on Interstate 75 at Moore’s Mill. But the baby couldn’t wait.
“I don’t think I’m going to make it because I can literally feel her crowning,” said Jocelyn Paul.
The couple pulled off the highway and onto the first residential street they could find with a number they could give paramedics.
Jeffrey Paul said he barely had time to open the SUV door before baby Benzair made her debut.
He’s an athletic trainer at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. He told Channel 2’s Linda Stouffer he normally deals with soccer injuries. He had to flashback to his graduate school training for the roadside delivery of little Benzair, affectionately called little Benny.
“Yeah, I literally caught her. She came out on springs,” her father said.
Jocelyn Paul applauded her husband for having a cool head throughout the process.
“My girlfriends’ husbands would have fainted on the side of the road and he was as cool as can be,” she said.
Stouffer showed firefighters at Atlanta Fire Station 26 photos of the girl they wrapped in blankets just seconds after she was born.
Her father, meanwhile, is still shocked by the couple’s second daughter’s grand entrance.
“Holy cow, I delivered our little girl in the front seat of our car. It’s insane,” he said.
