Woman says she hasn't had money in a week because of card glitch

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — A local woman told Channel 2 Action News she doesn't have any money thanks to a glitch with her pre-paid debit card.

As Channel 2’s Matt Johnson learned, she's not the only one.

Green Dot has responded to a numerous customer complaints on its Twitter page over the past few days.

The company posted a statement on its website acknowledging the problem.

Johnson talked to one Cobb County woman, who says she hasn't had money for a week. Robin Moore told Johnson whenever she checks her phone the balance is in the negative.

Thousands of people have said the same thing: Their money is all of a sudden missing

Moore said she regrets the day she ever picked up a Green Dot prepaid card.

“It's not worth it,” Moore said. “I can’t pay any bills. I can’t do anything on the card. It's showing a negative balance.”

Moore is one of thousands across the country dealing with the aftermath of an admitted system glitch.

Last Monday, Moore said her account jumped to a balance over $1,000. Then when she checked the balance on her phone it showed a balance of negative $36.

“I could see if it was a day or two days, but its been seven days. Everybody wants their money,” Moore said.

Johnson called Green Dot Corp. to get some answers and a spokesperson said he would look into Moore's claims.

The Los Angeles-based company released a statement last week that reads:

"Last week, one of Green Dot's technology providers had a glitch in their system that caused a number of different problems with our prepaid cards. These problems should now all be fixed."

But on Green Dot's Twitter page, customers continue to complain about not being able to access their money.

Moore said if and when this nightmare comes to an end, her prepaid card days will be over.

“I want it to show my positive balance, take my money out and open up a checking account,” Moore told Johnson.

Green Dot said most of their customers were not affected, but anyone still having issues is urged to call customer service.

Moore said she has been calling all week with no response.
