Unknown witness could have crucial info in teen's death

MARIETTA, Ga. — Late Monday, police sent us a picture of a young man they'd like to question about the deadly shooting of a Cobb County teenager.

Officers say the unknown witness might be able to help them sort out how the teen ended up dead.

Miles Sanders, 17, was shot in the head early Sunday morning. The call to police said it was accidentally.

Sanders’ neighbor, Mandy Roman, says it’s hard to believe this happened.

“He was a cool kid, man. I just played basketball with him the other day,” Roman said.

Roman wasn’t in the small duplex when the shooting happened, but police say others were, including the witness they are hoping to find. Marietta Police won’t say where these pictures of the witness came from but do want to identify the person in them.

“We’re asking for the public’s help to determine his name and whereabouts so we can determine exactly what happened that evening,” said Officer Chuck McPhilamy with the Marietta Police Department.

Police have questioned others who were either in the duplex or knew something about what happened.

“We are not yet prepared to say if the teen’s death was an accident or otherwise,” McPhilamy said.
