Police search for person who shot, killed man in broad daylight

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Police believe someone knows who shot and killed a man Wednesday, but so far have received little cooperation from those inside the complex at Crescent Square Apartments.

Channel 2's Ross Cavitt was outside the Cobb County apartment complex on Austell Road, where for a while, police were concerned about more violence.

As the afternoon wore on, more people gathered outside yellow scene-tape, yards from the body of a man found shot to death.

Police told Cavitt, “There’s obviously a lot of people around right now, but from what I understand right now, no one is saying they saw anything.”

Police slowed traffic entering the complex, questioning each driver that came in hoping to control the growing crowd, while detectives searched for clues leading to the killer or killers.

Many in the crowd seemed to know the victim and police say they may have had an idea who took the victim's life, but Cobb police told Cavitt that few are relaying that information to them.

“It’s frustrating for us that, obviously, we have more than 100 people who were on scene when we arrived, but we’re not getting much cooperation from anybody,” an officer said.

One resident told Cavitt, “I feel bad that is sad one of their family members had to die and the whole situation is sad.”

“We understand the grieving process, but what we don’t need is a secondary altercation out her over something like this,” the officer told Cavitt.

Neighbors who live at the complex said they’ve heard gunfire occasionally and sometimes during the day.

Despite the grief and anger at the scene, police hope that someone shares information leading them to the person or persons responsible, rather than taking action themselves.

Anyone with information on the case should call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477.
