Powder Springs residents concerned about recent gunfire

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Powder Springs neighbors are concerned after bullets flew through the wall of a man’s house.

Channel 2’s Nefertiti Jaquez says the bullets flew through a wall in John Metzdorf’s master bedroom.

Metzdorf says he feels like a “prisoner in his own home” because he’s been consumed by fear, worrying something could happen to him, his pregnant wife or his neighbors.

His concern comes after his next-door neighbor’s home was hit by a stray bullet on June 23. Then, on July 5, a bullet tore a gaping hole into the back of his home.

On Monday afternoon, another burst of gunfire echoed through the streets of the neighborhood.

“I feel like a hostage in my own home,” Metzdorf said. “It’s is terrifying to think like at any moment something bad could happen.”

Metzdorf’s wife described the terrifying moments on Monday.

“I head just one pop,” Metzdorf’s wife said. “I dialed the police and five more shots went off.”

Metzdorf said he never thought this would be an issue.

“It’s always been a quiet neighborhood,” Metzdorf said.

Several residents living along Hopeland Drive tell us they are on edge.

“Every house in this cul-de-sac has children,” Metzdorf’s wife said.

Powder Springs police say they are also concerned and are currently working to figure out who is doing the shooting and why.
