Pipe bombs, other weapons found inside Cobb County home

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Military bomb technicians were called in to assist the Cobb County bomb squad as they searched a Marietta home where several pipe bombs were found Friday.

Channel 2 Action News learned officers discovered three pipe bombs and other explosives inside the vacant home Friday morning.

Later Friday evening, sources told Channel 2's Chris Jose that three additional explosive devices were found inside the home.

Jose was at the scene in the 2900 block of Bay Berry Drive in Cobb County most of the day as technicians investigated.

Jose learned that the man living there died recently. The cause of death is not known.

When officials notified the man's mother that he had died, she said her late husband kept explosives at the home.

The woman's late husband was in the military, officials said.

She gave investigators permission to check the house, where they found the bombs and weapons.

The military bomb technicians were called in Friday afternoon to make sure there were no other explosives in the home.

"They're doing their job. They're doing it methodically, carefully. We're not rushing this," Cobb County police Sgt. Wayne Delk said.

Police blocked off part of the road while they investigated but did not order any evacuations.

Neighbors were surprised to find out what was inside the home.

"I've lived here since I was 6 years old and I've run into these neighbors before, so I know these people. It's weird for them having that kind of stuff," Quincy Oucha said.
