Gang-related activity down in Cobb County

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Police Chief Mike Register told faith leaders that gang-related activity is down in Cobb County.

Register revealed new numbers during a faith forum in Marietta.

According to Cobb County police, 212 gang-related incidents have been reported in 2017.

Last year, police reported 493. Two years ago, police responded to 348 gang-related crimes and 253 in 2014.

"We're not going to tolerate gang violence and gang activity in Cobb County," Register said.

Register told Channel 2's Chris Jose that local churches will play a crucial role in fighting the gang problem.

"Law enforcement can't do it alone. We need our institutions of faith, we need our citizens, to all roll our sleeves up," Register said. "Let’s look at the problem realistically, factually, and find solutions to give young people alternatives."
