Cobb musician's Falcons touchdown song could play at Super Bowl

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — A Cobb county musician is ready to rise up knowing that the Falcon’s "Touchdown Celebration Song" may be played during Super Bowl 51.

Channel 2’s Craig Lucie met him Wednesday afternoon in Kennesaw to get the story behind the song that has blared from the Georgia Dome dozens of times.

Falcons fans are hoping to hear the song on repeat inside NRG Stadium in Houston this weekend.

After every Falcon’s touchdown, Sonny Lallerstedt gets to hear his catchy cheer with thousands of fans.

Channel 2 Action News will have special Atlanta Falcons coverage LIVE from Houston every weeknight at 6:30 p.m.

He jammed out while Lucie watched him perform the song he recorded in his basement with his family yelling this line: “Hey!” said Lallerstedt.

Parishioners at the Sanctuary church in Kennesaw may walk in Sunday cheering as he plays Falcons "Touchdown Celebration Song." They hope to hear it multiple times after their service while watching Super Bowl 51 on TV.

“Wow! Getting a song you’ve written played in the Super Bowl ... that is pretty good,” said Lallerstedt.

He recently got a call.

“He said, "Looks like there’s a possibility that the Touchdown Celebration Song will play in the Super Bowl' and I said, 'Really?' He said, 'It looks like the NFL requested it,'” said Lallerstedt

Lallerstedt said he heard they requested the Patriot’s song too, but he knows his touchdown song will get the most airtime.

“As soon as you hear it, you know what it is,” said Lallerstedt.

Plenty of Falcons fans will be in Houston to sing along with him while he watches back home in Atlanta. It’s where he grew up, and where he hopes his tune will carry on for generations to come.

“It’s part of our tradition, and it’s important this tradition goes with us wherever we are. The fact that we are in the Super Bowl, what an honor that is,” said Lallerstedt

When he got that call, the NFL would not confirm to them that they would play it. They only requested his song and the "Rise Up" song so we will all be watching to see.
