COBB COUNTY, Ga. — A Cobb County couple was taking photos on the Las Vegas strip when the massacre happened, and it became the most terrifying time of their lives.

Kristen Lee Barrett tells Channel 2's Rikki Klaus she was exploring the strip with her boyfriend of three years, Jeroan Bailey, when they heard gunshots, then sirens, and saw people running Sunday night.

“SWAT pulled up in the valet area and almost hit us because they ran up on the curb,” Barrett said. “It was just really terrifying.”

They had no place to hide, and no idea where the gunfire was coming from.

“Everyone around us was freaking out,” Barrett said. “People were crying, and we didn’t know where it was coming from.”

Hotels around them were locked. Bailey stood protectively in front of Barrett, backed up against Caesar’s Palace.

“People were just literally losing it, and it really kind of shakes you to the core,” Barrett said.

Finally, they tell Klaus they were able to hail a cab and they ducked in the back seat.

The couple says they’re grateful they were not at the concert where the massacre occurred. They say Bailey had come close to buying tickets, since his girlfriend loves country music.

“We’re just really praying for everyone who was closer to that or that maybe lost someone because I can’t even imagine,” Bailey said. “I just can’t even begin to imagine.”

Barrett and Bailey say they're staying in their hotel room, unless they need to leave.

The couple told Klaus they wish they were already back home in Cobb County. Their flight is Tuesday afternoon.
