1 dead, 1 transported from burned down home

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — A teenage girl was found dead in a Cobb County home that caught fire. Witnesses say another teen escaped the fire by jumping out a window.

"We were able to pull the victim out of the bedroom window, but it was too late," Cobb County Fire Department Lt. Dan Dupree said.

Neighbor Lee Sengrath says she saw flames shooting out of the Shadow Ridge Drive home in Cobb County.

"I was taking a nap and someone knocked on my door, and I came out and saw the smoke, and then I saw the boy jump out,"  Sengrath said.

The boy cut his hands on broken glass while escaping.

Police say a man also survived. He's being questioned by police as arson investigators collect evidence from the scene.

Investigators aren't revealing the relationship between everyone involved, but Sengrath says the man is stepfather to the two kids.

Another witness said while the fire was burning, he saw the stepfather sitting in his car acting strange.

"Crazy bent out of shape and upset, just crazy. One of the police officers asked me where he was at and I said up there in his car," witness Robert McNelley said.

Police told Channel 2 Action News they handcuffed the man, but he wasn't under arrest and has not been charged.

"He's just being interviewed at this time just to figure out again, who's involved in it, where he was, what happened, what he knows, to try to help us out," Alicia Chilton, with Cobb County Police said.

Channel 2's Tyisha Fernandes saw investigators take several bags of evidence from the house, including a gas can.
