Cobb native shot at party celebrating Heisman

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Two University of Louisville football players and another victim were shot Saturday night while celebrating star quarterback Lamar Jackson’s Heisman Trophy win.

Sophomore linebacker Henry Famurewa -- a Powder Springs native and a graduate of McEachern High School -- was one of the victims, along with junior linebacker James Hearns and a third person who wasn’t immediately named.

Police described the injuries as non-life-threatening.

The shooting was reported at an off-campus party on the same night Jackson won the Heisman Trophy.

Famurewa earned an honorable mention for McEachern High School on the 2013 AAAAAA All-State team. He played in nine games for Louisville this season, accumulating 10 tackles and a pair of sacks.

Hearns -- from Tallahassee, Florida -- collected a team-high eight sacks for Louisville this season while also racking up 43 tackles, 11 tackles for loss and five forced fumbles.

LSU defensive end Arden Key, who graduated from Hapeville Charter Academy in Atlanta, tweeted Sunday afternoon about the shooting.

The university sent out two alerts to students. The, at 4:07 a.m., was about the shooting, saying that Louisville Police officers were on the scene. A second notification sent at 7:48 a.m. gave the all clear.

The university has yet to make an official statement on the incident.

The Louisville Metro Police Department is seeking whoever was responsible for the shootings.

The Cardinals face LSU on Dec. 31 at 11 a.m. in the Citrus Bowl at Orlando’s Camping World Stadium.
