Cobb Co. police search for man who shot officer

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Cobb County police said they are searching for a gunman after an officer was shot Friday morning.

Cobb County police said the officer was on patrol at the Concord Chase apartments when he spotted a suspicious man just after 1 a.m. The man started running, and when the officer was chasing him, the man turned around and shot the officer, police said.

Police said the officer was struck in his bullet-proof vest. He was released from the hospital Friday morning.

Officers have been searching cars in the area throughout this morning and a SWAT team entered the complex around 8 a.m.

Nearby residents received code red calls describing the gunman as having a dark complexion and short hair with twists. The call said he was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and khaki shorts. Police said he is in his late teens or early 20s.

Police said the gunman is considered armed and extremely dangerous.
