Cobb Co. firefighters, officer accused of illegal steroid abuse

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Cobb County leaders are looking into allegations of illegal steroid use among the county's firefighters and a police officer.

County spokesman Robert Quigley told Channel 2 they received a tip that landed five firefighters and a police officer under investigation.

"At this point, Cobb County is investigating claims of six employees who may have consumed or distributed steroids without a prescription," Quigley said. "This initiated when a tip came into the county's narcotics unit that steroids may be being used or distributed illegally."

Three firefighters have been placed on administrative leave, one resigned and another remains on the job pending the outcome of the investigation.

"We began our own inquiry into this to make sure our employees were living both on duty and off duty by the standards we expect," Quigley said.

Quigley said the investigation should wrap up within the next two weeks.
