18-year-old shot, left on side of road in Clayton County identified

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — Clayton County police say a teen was found shot to death, lying face down in a patch of grass near a curb Thursday night.

The 18-year-old victim was dead when officers arrived to the area of Crystal Lake Road and Warrington Place in a neighborhood just south of Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport around 8 p.m.

On Saturday, police identified him as Richard Lee Jackson, Jr.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact them.

“Several shell casings were located at the scene, but it is unclear as to how many times the male was shot,” police spokesman Officer David Portis said Friday in a news release.

"I was standing on my patio and I heard the shots, like 'Pow, pow, pow.' Then I heard it again, 'Pow, pow, pow, pow,'" witness Donnell Fortson said.

Fortson says he counted a total of 18 shots coming from the street near his home. Within minutes, police rushed the neighborhood.

"Makes me want to move. Too close to my house," Fortson said.

The gunman is still on the run, leaving neighbors on edge.

"It's scary. I got three kids and a wife and stuff," neighbor Matthew Koffron said.
