Police searching for thief stealing cars at Atlanta airport

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — Atlanta police are searching for a man they call a "serial car thief" who has been targeting cars at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

Police say the thief has stolen at least three cars since April. They were all older model GMC and Chevrolet pickup trucks.

Channel 2's Tom Jones talked to police, who are now asking for the public's help to identify the thief.

Surveillance video captured the man appearing to pay for parking to get out of the lot.

Jones talked to travelers who thought the airport parking lots were secure.

James Drayton was shocked that the thief was even able to get away with a car.

"I don't see how they would be able to," Drayton said. "They have security that walks around, so how is that possible?"

Police said that in one case, a victim showed them his parking ticket, and surveillance video showed the thief paying with a parking ticket. They're trying to figure out how the thief got a duplicate ticket.

Police ask anyone who recognizes the thief to call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS (8477).
